Order of Operations: Example 1

Rule 20:
Multiplication and division must be completed before addition and subtraction.

Example 1: Calculate tex2html_wrap_inline13 .

Answer: The answer is 18.

Solution:
The problem contains division, addition, and subtraction. The division must be performed first. Use the numbers on either side of the division sign to calculate the result.

The problem tex2html_wrap_inline13 can be modified in a series of steps that are listed as follows:

tex2html_wrap_inline13 = tex2html_wrap_inline19

tex2html_wrap_inline19 = tex2html_wrap_inline23

tex2html_wrap_inline23 = tex2html_wrap_inline27
