 Post subject: how do I find the derivative of a surd function say

say (square root 2x-3)/6 I just cant seem to get the right answer no matter what method i use.....SOS please help:?:

Use the chain rule. If you want more than that, you should do as outermeasure advises.

my working:I used the quotient rule {6d/dx((2x)^1/2-3)-((2x)^1/2-3)d/dx6}/6*6.......got 108/square root(2x) which is not the right answer :(

What is your original function? I cannot tell if the square root goes with the 2, the 2x or the 2x-3.

In particular, I recommend you typeset your function with \LaTeX which we have help available for on our LaTeX board.
