Your friend is stranded on the other side of a canyon. You throw him a banana at an initial velocity of 20 m/s at an angle of 37* with respect to the horizontal. The canyon is 8 m wide and your friend is on a plateau 5 m above your elevation. Neglect air resistance and assume g = 10 m/s^2.

A.) Find the horizontal (x) and the vertical (y) components of the banana's initial velocity.
I got:
x = 16 m/s y = 12 m/s

B.) Determine whether or not the banana will reach your friend on his side of the canyon.

This is where I'm stuck. Help please?

8 m wide at 16 m/s will take half a second.

determine Delta y for t = 1/2 sec ... if it's 5 m or greater, it made it.

I get it now! Thank you, thank you!

Got 4.75 m... I think that's right. No banana for my stranded buddy.
