What was the sale price of the soccer boots?

Why must the answer be 54 and not 72

18/0.25 = 72

You don't divide by the percentage, you multiply by 1- the percentage.

So if she bought two pairs at 75% the original price (i.e. 25% off) then if x is the price 2x(0.75)=2x-18 is your equation because she saved 18 dollars.
