I was wondering how to enable the displaymath and/or \[ \] commands because consider,

\lim_{t\to0}
notice how the t\to0 is adjacent, rather than below, the limit symbol. This happens to me in LaTeX only when I'm typing math symbols within text using the $ $ delimiters. So essentially my question is what command should I use to put the t\to0 beneath the limit symbol, and enable math display mode in general?

Two options:

Code:
[tex]\displaystyle\lim_{t\to0}\frac{\sin t}{t}=1[/tex]

\displaystyle\lim_{t\to0}\frac{\sin t}{t}=1

Code:
[tex]$\lim_{t\to0}\frac{\sin t}{t}=1[/tex]

$\lim_{t\to0}\frac{\sin t}{t}=1

Code:
\displaystyle

is rather handy inside latex as well. Most of my documents have a

\newcommand{\ds}{\displaystyle}

somewhere in them
