There's nothing to graph, that's not a function, it's an equation. I mean it has roots, but that's about it.

That's what I though. But I'm trying to help a friend, and all the instructions say is to graph a series of equations and they are like that one. I guess the questions are wrong?

Unless there is a function involved, there is no such thing as a graph. Perhaps you can look for some context in the source material (e.g. a textbook). It may be, for example, that the intent is to get the solver to present the solutions to the equation graphically, which is different from graphing something. Context is essential.

Wild guess:

graph x^3 and graph 5-x (on the same page). The solution to the equation is where the two graphs cross.

Or perhaps "solve" (not "graph") is meant.
Can you solve x^3 + x - 5 = 0 ?
